West Virginia Legislature : Unclog Our Courts!
Trial lawyers are trying to game the system and flood our courts with frivolous litigation. Support legal reforms that will reduce junk lawsuits and unclog our courts!
To West Virginia Legislature:
For years, West Virginia was ranked as having the worst lawsuit climate in the United States. But in 2015, the legislature decided to stop trial lawyer abuses and fix our state. In the past three sessions, the legislature has passed, and the governor signed into law, important legal reforms. And in 2017, West Virginia rose five places in a survey of the lawsuit climate in all 50 states.
To keep our state moving in the right direction, I urge you to continue passing legal reforms. Important priorities include establishing an intermediate court of appeals, venue reform to stop trial lawyers from forum shopping to file junk lawsuits, restrictions on lawsuit lending to keep frivolous lawsuits out of our courts, and transparency in trial lawyer advertising so consumers are not scared into stopping the use of medicine by deceptive ads.
Employers look at West Virginia’s lawsuit climate when they decide where to locate or expand a business, meaning that this is an important economic issue.
I urge you to pass more legal reform this year to promote jobs and unclog our courts.
