Thanks to a commitment Congress made in 2015, 500 factories across the country are busy making bolts, blades and other wind turbine parts. Today 25,000 American workers make parts for wind turbines here at home. Another 8,000 U.S. factory jobs are possible by 2020. Boosting wind energy production gives America a new option for our energy independence and security - and a new lease on life for farming communities.
But now some in Congress want to break the promise that both Republicans and Democrats made to America’s wind workers in 2015. They are trying to drastically change rules on wind farms that have already gotten private financing. Instead of the agreement to phase out tax relief for electricity generated from wind, they could push this growing industry off a cliff. Breaking their promise could cut build-out of new wind projects by more than half.
Is it fair for some industries and workers to benefit in tax reform, while wind factory workers get pink slips? Tell Congress to stick to the wind energy tax reform deal they already agreed to in 2015.
