Mayor Peduto and Pittsburgh City Council : Stop Mayor Peduto and the Pittsburgh City Council's Gun Ban!
This petition is now closed.
On December 18, 2018, Mayor Peduto and the Pittsburgh City Council proposed several ordinances to ban firearms, ammunition, and accessories. All of these ordinances are all a clear violation of the Pennsylvania state preemption law, Pennsylvania Supreme Court case law, and criminal statutes.
These draconian measures would make possessing or even transporting certain types of guns, ammunition, and accessories a crime. Their goal is simple: to restrict your Constitutional rights and take your guns. One of the ordinances also gives the police the right to seize guns from your home without due process, a clear violation of your 4th Amendment rights.
Moreover, the City's actions are also criminal in nature, violating 18 Pa.C.S. § 5301 (official oppression) and 18 Pa.C.S. § 6120 (preemption). If the Mayor and City Council pass these ordinances, they can and should be prosecuted under state law.
Stand up today and make your voice heard!
To Mayor Peduto and Pittsburgh City Council:
As a concerned citizen of the City of Pittsburgh or an individual who works, travels or does business in the City, I urge you to oppose proposed Ordinances 2018-1218, 2018-1219, and 2018-1220. The proposed legislation is a clear violation of the state preemption law, established PA Supreme Court precedent and would constitute criminal action by the Mayor and City Council if passed.
Municipalities have no authority to control firearms and I consider these ordinances to be brazen lawlessness. If necessary, I am prepared to file a private criminal complaint with Allegheny County District Attorney Steve Zappala asking for the Mayor and City Council to be prosecuted for violations of 18 Pa.C.S. § 5301 (official oppression) and 18 Pa.C.S. § 6120 (preemption).
Again, I urge you to drop your sponsorship for these Ordinances immediately. Firearms Owners Against Crime will keep me posted as to your actions.
