One of the country’s most successful tobacco prevention programs, Tobacco Free Florida, is under attack!
Florida’s Constitution Revision Commission is considering a proposal to the state constitution - Proposal 94 - that would take away funding for Tobacco-Free Florida. They’re expected to vote this month on sending Proposal 94 to the ballot box in November. Please help stop Prop 94 today!
Maybe you lost a loved one to smoking. Or, maybe you’re a new parent and hope your child never starts smoking. For these reasons and more, we need Tobacco Free Florida. Their programs prevent kids from smoking and help smokers quit.
Did you know that Floridians voted in favor of creating Tobacco Free Florida in 2006 using a portion of the money the state receives each year from the legal settlement with tobacco companies? Since its inception, Tobacco Free Florida has reduced the adult smoking rate from 21.0 percent to 15.5 percent (the lowest it has ever been!) and reduced youth smoking by more than 70 percent. As a result, Tobacco Free Florida has saved the state $17.7 billion in smoking-related healthcare costs between 2007 – 2015.
If the adult smoking rate continues to decline as expected, the state will continue to save billions of dollars.
Don’t let Florida’s effective anti-tobacco efforts go up in smoke! Sign the petition today.
