“Watching the congressman crying on live tv abt the trauma they
experienced. Y is this so funny tho?”
Chelsey Gentry-Tipton, chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Nebraska’s
Black Caucus, wrote this in the wake of the Alexandria shooting. She fired off
that comment the very same day that 66-year-old gunman James T. Hodgkinson
opened fire on Republican Congressmen, aides, and special agents.
Democratic Party leadership, thankfully, saw the cruelty in
Gentry-Tipton’s comment and asked her to resign. She refused. In another
Facebook post, she actually defended her vile comment, claiming that it “was
taken out of context.”
In what context is a shooting considered funny, Chelsey? A person who
finds a hate crime humorous shouldn’t be in any position of power.
To Chelsey Gentry-Tipton:
The shooting of Rep. Scalise and aides was a despicable politically-motivated crime. Several people nearly lost their lives that day – and many more would have, had not two armed Capitol Police officers been there to stop a massacre before it started.
Your lack of outrage is stunning, but to post publicly that you find it “so funny” is inhumane. The leadership of your own party recognizes this, and asked you to step down. It’s time you take their advice, and ours.
It is time you realize that our political system deserves better than someone who gets a kick out of violence against their opponents. Please follow the requests of your party’s leadership and resign your office of Chairwoman.
