Victory! Weiner Sentenced to 21 Months in Prison
Federal Court : Require Anthony Weiner to Register as a Sex Offender + Serve Prison Time
Former Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner will plead
guilty to a charge of “transferring obscene material to a minor” – sexting with
an underage girl. This charge is part of a plea deal.
Weiner will likely have to register as a sex offender. This charge also carries with it the penalty of up to 10 years in prison. The judge could let him off with a light sentence, and might not even require him to go to jail.
To Federal Court:
Anthony Weiner engaged in an explicit online relationship with a 15 year old girl. He knew the girl was a sophomore in high school, but that did not stop him from sending lewd images and text messages. Weiner even sexted with this girl while his young son laid next to him in bed at home. He has plead guilty to this charge and expressed deep remorse. Despite his apologetic statement, Weiner still sexted with a minor and allegedly asked her to strip down on camera.
Prosecutors in this case have recommended between 21 and 27 months in jail. However, the court could give him no jail time at all. Weiner's standing as a former Democrat Congressman should not influence the judge to give him special treatment. Weiner has a serious problem, and we ask that the court sentence him to at least some amount of prison time.
