Facebook : Protect Our Data!
With more than half of all Americans using its platform to connect with
friends and loved ones, Facebook needs to restore the public’s trust. The
company is currently embroiled in controversy over how it has used and shared
our personal data.
The people who use your platform made your company powerful, your top staffers wealthy, and your CEO a household name. I want to continue using Facebook, but not at the cost of my right to control what data I share (and with whom I choose to share it). As a Facebook user, there are three things I want from your company as a commitment to keep my data safe.
- A promise that all political speech will be treated fairly, regardless of party or opinion,
- A terms of service agreement that doesn’t take hours – or a law degree – to understand, and
- A commitment from Facebook not to sell my data to 3rd parties.
These changes will make Facebook safe for people like me to use. If Facebook truly aims to connect the world, they should do so safely. I ask you to undertake these changes as soon as possible.
