Pasco County School Board : Parental Consent for After School Clubs/Programs
Adding parental permission to after school clubs and activities would help parents become more involved in the educational activities of our children and protect them from organizations that are not part of or vetted by Pasco County School District.
To Pasco County School Board:
I am petitioning to add parental notification through consent forms for Nondistrict Sponsored Student Clubs and Activities (Policy po5730).
The addition would read as follows:
“No school shall permit a student to become a member or participate in any activities of a club or organization without written communication from the student’s parent or legal guardian, approving the student’s membership or participation. The written communication must be signed and dated by the parent or legal guardian.”
This addition is very important because it is difficult for parents to know exactly what their children are doing after school. There are so many after school clubs, programs and activities. Also, some after school clubs and organizations are pointing kids to out-of-district third-party organizations with members that are not background checked by the Pasco County School District. Legal guardians have no way of knowing what their children are being taught, involved in, or who they may be privately communicating with at school or within these 3rd party organizations. This simple addition would help them become more involved in the educational activities of their children.
