Cop killer Anthony Bottom appeared before the parole board on June 12th. He requested and was granted a postponement. We will provide an update when we have more information on the new hearing date. We will also continue to loudly express opposition to granting this and other cop killers parole.
Last week, New Yorkers – and Americans across our nation – were appalled when cop killer Herman Bell walked out of prison after being granted parole by parole board members appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
A parole interview for Herman Bell’s accomplice, Anthony Bottom a.k.a. Jalil Abdul Muntaqim is currently slated for the week of June 11, 2018. We must take action now in order to keep Anthony Bottom in prison. Sign the petition now telling the Tina M. Stanford, Chairwoman of the NYS Board of Parole and all members of the New York State Parole Board that Anthony Bottom should not be paroled.
No one convicted of killing a police officer should ever get out of prison, especially this one. Bottom ambushed, tortured and assassinated two NYPD officers. Frankly, life behind bars is too good for this monster.
In May of 1971, NYPD 32nd Precinct Officers Jones and Piagentini answered a 911 call outside a Harlem housing project. Herman Bell, Anthony Bottom and Albert Washington, members of the Black Liberation Army, ambushed and shot the officers in their backs. Officer Jones died from the initial onslaught while Piagentini was shot 12 times, pled for his life then was killed brutally by Bell, who took Piagentinis’ own gun and used ten more bullets to end the young officer’s life.
Anthony Bottom, along with Bell and Washington, was arrested in August of 1971 for the murder of another police officer in California and was then brought to trial for the murder of Officers Jones and Piagentini. Bottom and the others received sentences of 25 years to life in prison. Albert Washington died in 2000 and Bell is now out of prison.
Anthony Bottom has never expressed true remorse for the murders he committed, according to Commissioner James O’Neill of the New York City Police Department. Anthony Bottom has been eligible for parole since 2012 but has been repeatedly denied parole. Anthony Bottom has published several books under his revolutionary name. In 2015, while serving time in Attica Correctional Facility, Bottom audaciously yet unsuccessfully sued the State of New York for his lack of cable television access.
The parole of cop killer Herman Bell was a monumental injustice. Sign the petition now to make sure that injustice doesn’t repeat itself.
