As registered Republicans who have paid our fair share of taxes and voted primarily for GOP candidates for many years, we do NOT wish to be associated with a party that is pig headed enough to ignore scientific evidence, anecdotal evidence and public health official recommendations that the simple act of wearing a mask can help save lives.
Even if all this evidence and these experts are wrong, what exactly does it hurt? We can wear masks for extended periods of time without any real sacrifice. We believe that the wearing of masks is not a political issue.
We pay a lot of money for the maintenance of the Senate. Yes! There have been times when we've stated, "It would be best for the entire Hill to sink into the earth!" In actuality, we believe there is much benefit to preserving continuity of government. Wearing a mask in these times should not be a personal choice.
We are requesting four things of you Senator McConnell:
1) That as an American leader and patriot, you take a leadership role and wear your mask, both on and off the Senate floor;
2) That you help inform the electorate of the dichotomy between personal rights and the rights of the community as a whole by suggesting they read Jacobson -v- Massachusetts;
3) That you support the continuation of government by requiring all individuals wear protective masks on the Senate floor and all Senate property where social distancing cannot be maintained; and
4) By doing these things, help us feel proud to vote Republican in November.
