California Legislators : Increase Funding Now to Fix California's Roads
This petition is now closed.
California motorists are paying the price for our bad roads through higher vehicle repair costs and time wasted in traffic. Please urge your legislator to pass Senate Bill 1 and Assembly Bill 1 to increase transportation funding to fix our roads now. We all pay the more they delay!
To California Legislators:
As your constituent and someone who drives on our crumbling roads, I am writing today to urge you to support Senate Bill 1 and Assembly Bill 1. Our dilapidated streets and roads have reached crisis proportions and the time for the legislature to act is now.
The legislature has not increased transportation funding in decades. As a result, our roads, freeways, bridges and transportation networks are crumbling. We have a $59 billion backlog of repairs for state highways, and a $73 billion backlog of repairs for local streets and roads.
California motorists are paying the price for our bad roads. Poor road conditions are costing California drivers $762 per year on average in extra vehicle maintenance costs. It costs eight times more to fix a road than it does to maintain it. And these recent rains have exposed major vulnerabilities in our infrastructure, widening potholes and crumbling our roads.
The longer you delay, the more we pay!
It's time for the legislature to act. Please work with your colleagues to pass SB 1 and AB 1 that combines new revenues with strong accountability.
Thank you for your commitment to fix our roads.
