After Brock Turner was found sexually assaulting an unconscious victim, unanimously convicted of sexual assault and three other felonies, Judge Aaron Persky gave the entire justice system a slap in the face by sentencing Turner to a mere six months in jail.
Turner showed no remorse for his crimes. He was described as “a predator searching for prey” by the deputy district attorney. He is a predator and a danger to society as well as the entire Stanford student body, yet Judge Persky didn’t want to give him too harsh of a sentence because it might destroy his future as a college athlete.
Persky seems to have forgotten about the life Brock Turner destroyed when he sexually assaulted a woman.
As the victim so poignantly writes in her statement to her
attacker: “The seriousness of rape has to be communicated clearly. We should
not create a culture that suggests we learn that rape is wrong through trial
Justice was NOT served. We need to send a clearer message that this type of behavior is not ok—for student athletes or anyone.
