The parents and community of Savannah Chatham County Public School System call for the dismissal or immediate resignation of superintendent Dr. Ann Levett.
Dr. Levett does not always follow proceedures, has put our students in danger more than once, and runs her administration by bullying her teachers, staff, and administrators.
We have had enough and we, the parents and community, want her gone.
She has not taken appropriate actions to keep our children safe and has withheld crucial information from parents so that we were not able to make a personal decision to keep our children safe.
Most recently there were some instances of hacking during virtual learning (where pornography was displayed to students) and the Superintendent and her deputies fired the teachers instead of addressing the issues publicly.
We are tired of the good ol' boy or sorority system. We are tired of our elected Board Representatives working for the superintendent and not the people. We currently have a “rubber stamp” system, not a system that represents the citizens. Why do we have a Superintendent that makes close to $300k/yr (plus alarming fringe benefits), when our scores are not improving and teacher attrition is on the rise; the BOE voted to raise those standards so she could get a raise.
Year after year we have seen the budget increase by millions (by tax increases) but have not seen it reflected in the quality of schools, nor improvement in our testing outcomes.
The way our public school is run affects everyone in the our community. This is not just an issue for parents, but every tax paying citizen.
In order for SCCPSS to grow and be successful, we need leadership with integrity. Leadership that is constantly striving to better our school system. A leader must consider the interest of the led body. Either by the influential pressures of special interests or blatant mismanagement, she is failing to perform suitable to the needs of Chatham County.
A student body of almost 38,000 depend on our board to make decisions to benefit the whole community, not a selected few. Dozens of church and community groups are having to step up to hold e-learning centers to accommodate working parents where the school system is lacking. Many parents cannot afford these programs even with the new assistance because their income level. This is not FAPE (Free Appropriate Public Education) and gives those economically disadvantaged students unequal educational opportunities.
We have given Dr. Levett numerous chances to do her job accordingly and she has failed. This is not one or two people complaining because they are upset, this is a whole community calling for action for our children, for our student's futures.
If our problems are not addressed by the SCCPSS Board of Education we will make every effort to have you replaced in the 2022 election (or begin a recall now). We will picket, protest, and work day and night to let every single voting resident know that you ignored the community of Chatham County who have clearly spoken.
Parents, teachers, and tax payers will no longer be bullied, no longer be intimidated, no longer be pushed aside, and no longer stand by silently while our students' educations are sidelined.
