Safety first! Health second!
So far, I--an epileptic who has frequent seizures that cause injuries, functioning difficulties, inability to leave home, medication side effects, etc.--have been denied In-Home Support Services from 4 doctors, even when I have someone there to back me up, show pics of my seizure injuries, show pics of how incoherent I am when I need Ativan, talk about my difficulties in depending on myself, etc. My scoliosis also has an effect on my abilities to live on my own, especially when carrying weight is involved, such as carrying home groceries on a bus and/or bike/backpack. Riding my bike on the streets is a risk as well, but I can't afford the transportation assistance programs that I'm applicable for. I'm so unsafe and unhealthy due to these disturbing denials, and need people to vouch for me to my doctors. By signing this, you will be telling them that Trisha Beltz's health and safety depends on obtaining IHSS assistance, and you support them signing consent forms for me to get assistance.
I have acknowledged to a doctor that I know from experience what will control my seizures (a combination of Lamictal, nervous system tonic, nutrition, chiro, acupuncture, exercise, and meditation) but I can't afford it until I get a career started in two years when I receive my Master's Degree. I just need help/IHSS until then. Two years of assistance is not long, but the doctors won't listen.
There are many instances where I do not feel heard and/or taken seriously by doctors. I get interrupted so much, doubted, and I am not getting what I need. Many patients of all sorts know what it's like to need to depend on a 'witness' coming in with you to the dr's office to vouch for you while you're consulting the doc about your problem. It's rediculous to feel the need for that, and the strategy didn't even work this time. I have literally stated, "please help" on my most recent email attempt to get my dr to consent and cannot get help.
I'm so tired of having to keep finding people to help me for free; people have lives and can't babysit me all the time. I need to be able to pay someone to help me, and IHSS is offering to sponsor me/pay whoever wants to take care of me since I can't afford the provisions on my SSI/SSDI income amount ($900/mo). All I need is for the doctors to believe me and IHSS when they are told that Trisha Beltz needs assistance!
Will those who have seen the struggles that I deal with please sign this petition to show the doctors that I am needing assistance? Thanks. <3 --Trish
To Medical practioners: Neurologists and General Practicioner(s).:
To all medical practitioners:
Trisha Beltz is currently being denied In-Home Support Services (IHSS) assistance by doctors when IHSS workers clearly see her need for assistance and are only asking for a doctor's signature/consent. Others, including myself, witness Trisha's challenges, help when possible, but cannot help all of the time. With this petition, we are acknowledging to you that it's true: Trisha Beltz needs IHSS's living assistance program.
So far, Trisha Beltz has been denied consent by 4 practicioners despite all of the reasons given for needing the assistance, and even get interrupted by doctors when trying to give those reasons. She has given a typed list of reasons to a doctor only for it to be set aside without being read before giving a denial. She has made effort so much that she literally has stated the words "Please help!!!" in a letter begging for consent. Stress increases her seizures; being in danger, incoherent, or too injured to take care of herself at home or in public without physical harm and risks gives her more stress among other problems. By denying her living assistance, you are denying her the ability to live healthy and safe, and are simultaneously indirectly encouraging the induction of more seizures. By denying her IHSS assistance, you are making her health worse.
Please see this petition as viable proof that Trisha Beltz needs a signature to obtain living assistance from IHSS, and please partake in providing the signature that is needed for such.
