Fellow Americans : Bring Back the True Meaning of Memorial Day
This petition is now closed.
Once a day of solemn observance to pay tribute to those we
lost who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom and way of life,
Memorial Day has become a three-day celebration to honor the barbecue, the
start of summer break, and retail sales.
Veterans who lost comrades and families that lost loved ones in battle are

That is why we urge you, our fellow Americans, to take the pledge to restore
the true meaning of Memorial day by taking a moment to pay tribute to our
fallen service members in whatever way they can, whether that’s observing their

To Fellow Americans:
We pledge to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day by taking a moment to pay tribute to our fallen service members. In recent years, the commercial value of this three-day celebration of the beginning of summer has out shined its original meaning.
For many of us, Memorial Day stands as a stark reminder of the comrade, father, brother, son or daughter who never came home. You can imagine how the complete commercialization of this holiday might marginalize the grief attached to Memorial Day for those who lost loved ones.
We pledge to do our part to respect the holiday as it should be respected and take time out from the barbecues, pool and beach openings, and parties to observe a proper moment of silence, take the time to educate our children and grandchildren about the true meaning of Memorial Day, or set an example for our friends and family by adorning a grave site of a fallen hero or making a donation to a charity that supports those who lost family members to war.
Let’s show our reverence for the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms.
