President Trump : Award Cajun Navy Leader with Presidential Citizens Medal
This petition is now closed.
In the wake of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey,
a group of Louisiana boaters called the “Cajun Navy” pitched in to rescue
people trapped in their homes. The group, led by a man named John Bridgers, brought their trucks and boats to Texas as soon as the storm made landfall.
To President Trump:
When Hurricane Harvey struck Houston, members of the Cajun Navy hitched their boats to their cars and drove to Texas. They arrived around 4:45 in the morning and immediately started rescue operations. People are alive today because Cajun Navy volunteers pulled them off of roofs or out of attics and brought them to safety. These volunteers dropped everything to rush into a disaster zone to help total strangers.
The Cajun Navy and its Harvey relief efforts are led by a Louisiana man named John Bridgers. Bridgers recruited the volunteers, organized the drive to Texas, and even set up a makeshift command center near Houston to coordinate his team.
Bridgers doesn’t do this for personal glory or compensation, but we think he deserves recognition for his outstanding act of service and leadership. We think Bridgers is a great candidate for the Presidential Citizens Medal. The award is for someone “who has performed exemplary deeds or services for his or her country or fellow citizens,” and Bridgers certainly qualifies. Please consider honoring him with this award.
