The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is refusing to release immigration reports to federal lawmakers.
In August, the DHS also withheld information requested under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), following raids made by their agency.
Americans and policymakers need the truth now more than ever, with the 2016 election right around the corner. Statistics show that 8 out of 10 (or 80% of) illegal immigrants are able to make it into the U.S., placing immigration legislation high on the priority list.
The DHS’ choice to withhold information from lawmakers should be considered a political tactic used to suppress the severity of the issue. The findings of the report could significantly push lawmakers and Americans to favor GOP nominee Donald Trump.Secretary Johnson and the DHS have an obligation to release the reports before the election. If the agency continues to be incorporative, they should be held accountable for their lack of transparency.
