Recent reports indicate that while the University of Virginia sat on top of a $2.2 billion budget surplus, the college continued to raise tuition prices astronomically.
UVA was originally founded by Thomas Jefferson, a founding father who loved education. How would he feel about his university charging steep tuition prices at taxpayers’ expense while they sit atop a fund that could single handedly run the entire university for nine months?
Virginia’s budget is struggling. Since UVA clearly has the finances, they should stop price gouging students and taxpayers and use some of this fund to make tuition more affordable to students.
Virginia taxpayers don’t need to be funding UVA while it amasses billions of dollars of excess cash.
