One of the conditions of President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran was a $1.7 billion payment to Iran from the U.S. government. $400 million dollars was withheld from Iran until the United States was certain that Iran would release five American hostages.
In January of 2016, on the same day as Iran released five American hostages, the United States transferred $400 million in cash to Iran. By essentially paying Iran to release the hostages, the United States negotiated with terrorists, which goes against a cardinal rule in U.S. foreign policy.
The Obama administration claims there was no ransom payment and that the release of the hostages just happened to coincide with the large payment.
The American people deserve to know if President Obama negotiated a ransom payment for the release of American hostages.
Negotiating with terrorists for the release of hostages promotes the continued abduction of Americans overseas. If President Obama is willing to pay $400 million to Iran for American hostages, what is stopping them from kidnapping more Americans in an attempt to get more money?
That is why the United States never negotiates with terrorists or countries that sponsor terrorists. Sign this petition to tell Congress to investigate President Obama’s ransom payment to Iran.
