Victory! Flash Beacon to be Installed
Phoenix, AZ : Install Stoplight Outside Veterans Community
Victory Place is a
residential community that is home to over 350 military veterans. The
intersection of two busy streets right outside the housing complex has many
Victory Place residents concerned for their safety. Accidents have piled up over the years, and one wheelchair-bound resident was hit by a car just a few months ago.
has a crosswalk, but pedestrians are frequently ignored. Residents have
requested that a stoplight be installed to prevent accidents, and the Phoenix
City Council is still deciding whether or not to supply the stoplight. A
spokesperson says that councilmembers
are waiting on additional data – but what data could be more important than
the experiences of people who must navigate the intersection every day?
To Phoenix, AZ:
The intersection of 7th Street and Jones Avenue is very busy. Several accidents have taken place there in the past, and the military veterans who reside at Victory Place are concerned for their safety.
While you wait for additional data, you delay a simple solution that could save a veteran’s life.
One veteran told AZ Central, “People do not pay attention to the people [in the crosswalk]. They actually speed up, blow their horn, give people [an obscene gesture], stuff like that.”
This is not the kind of treatment our veterans deserve. On behalf of the residents of Victory Place, we ask that you install a stoplight at 7th Street and Jones Avenue.
