Since 2002, the Pentagon’s Missile Defense Agency has contracted Boeing to create a missile defense system, referred to as Ground-based Midcourse Defense(GMD). Thus far, the Pentagon has paid Boeing $21 billion for their work on GMD and issued performance-based bonuses to Boeing executives to the tune of $2 billion.
There is just one problem with the GMD: it doesn’t work.
In a test
run of GMD, the missile system failed to hit 6 of the 11 simulated enemy
warheads! Suffice is to say that missing over half of all targets does not bode
well with regard to real-world concerns like deterring a nuclear strike by Iran
or North Korea.
If the $21-billion-dollar defense system cannot complete its only requirement, why exactly was Boeing issued an additional $2 billion in bonuses?
American taxpayers deserve a more thorough explanation of the contract the Pentagon has arranged with Boeing in order to determine how tax dollars from hard-working Americans are being spent. Sign the petition to tell the Missile Defense Agency Director Vice Admiral James D. Syring that we want more accountability on the spending of our hard earned taxes on deals with Boeing.
